Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, one of the world's most beautiful botanic gardens, is dedicated to conservation, culture, education as well as to keep tropical life. The Fairchild is an 83-acre botanical garden, located in the city of Coral Gables. This institution was established in 1936. The garden was named in honor of Dr. David Fairchild (1869 – 1954) one of the greatest plant explorers of all times who expended most of his life traveling around the world in search of plants with potential use for American people. His travels brought many important plants into cultivation in the U.S such as mangos, alfalfa, and Soya beans.

The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden manages one of the largest and most dynamic plant conservation programs of any U.S botanic garden. The Fairchild along with Miami-Dade Natural Areas Management is conserving more than 85 species of locally threatened plant species. There are more than 3,700 palms planted at Fairchild, with 193 genera and more than 550 species represented. Fairchild's cycad collection includes representations of most of the world's 200-plus species. It is the largest U.S collection with more than 700 living plants. The collection serves an important safeguard against extinction and a resource for research.
